Christmas lights, hot chocolate, carols and of course Santa. Head to Bayfield, Ontario in November for a wonderfully festive Christmas event.
Bayfield is a very cute, charming town on the shores of Lake Huron. You can check out our Bayfield, Ontario post for more details on this quaint village. I have attended the Christmas in Bayfield event for as long as I can remember. The tree lighting at Clan Gregor Square is always on the Friday night, usually around 7pm, which starts the whole thing off. Think Hallmark Christmas Movie with a cute park, lots of people drinking cider and hot chocolate, treats, Christmas Music and of course a visit from Jolly St. Nick. Once the trees are lit and the event has officially begun the crowds take off down to Main Street Bayfield. Here you will find shops and restaurants open late. This is a special treat as things in this area get pretty quiet after Labour Day. The beautiful buildings on Main St. are decked out in their Christmas best. Shopping is a hit for finding that special gift, with lots of unique purchases to be found. There is also something for every taste bud with the variety of restaurants and bars. Pub food, casual and fine dining, Indian cuisine, Italian, craft brews and so much more can be found within the town of Bayfield, Ontario.
The shopping and restaurants are open for the entire event. However, you will also find activities and contests to participate in. There is often a draw you can enter at each store, hashtags to follow for all of the details, as well as crafts and contests for kids at the Library.
You also don't want to miss a classic small town Christmas Parade which runs down Main St., usually on the Saturday morning. Bring the family, grab a coffee or hot chocolate and hunker down for some family fun watching floats, marching bands, and of course catch a glimpse of Santa Claus. *Pro tip....after the parade head to one of the local watering holes to catch an impromptu jam session of bag pipes and drums around a campfire with a craft brew.
Bayfield, Ontario is known as a great cottage town in the summer months due to the location on Lake Huron. There are visitors from all over that flock to its shores. But don't discount the fun that can be had in the winter months as well. Christmas in Bayfield draws crowds from all over the place, with people traveling from the GTA and Michigan.
