Experience the Charm of Blyth Trailway Cabins: A Perfect Huron County Getaway on the G2G Rail Trail

Updated: May 18

We all know the winter months can be long, cold and dark. After the hustle, bustle, fun and excitement of the holidays, January, February, and let's face it even March, can be tough! While we do not make New Years Resolutions, we do like to set goals for ourselves. One of our goals for 2024 is to spend more time together, just Jeff and I. So we have agreed to make it a priority to have a monthly date night. We also set some rules for what would count as a date, for example; going to Costco = not a date, going to a fast food restaurant = not a date, going for 5-8kms hikes and sleeping in a cabin in the woods = a date ❤️. So for our first official date of 2024, we packed a single bag, some snacks, games and our hiking boots and paid a visit to the Blyth Trailway Cabins.

Westia Cabin

These cabins are absolute gems in Huron County. I cannot express enough how simple it was to book, booking direct helps them save on fees, how helpful Becky was and how convenient these cabins are! Blyth Trailway Cabins are located directly on the G2G Rail Trail in Blyth, Ontario. So they are perfect if you are section hiking, or through hiking/cycling the G2G. They are also great for a weekend getaway or accessing the many theatres, festivals and attractions in Huron County. You also have to see how cute these cabins are!

The level of detail, style and comfort is amazing. When we received our confirmation email we were told that all of the necessities would be provided. So of course we packed pillows and blankets and some other necessities because....of course. Well let me tell you, when they say the necessities are provided they mean the necessities and then some. We could not believe all of the items they had available in our cabin. We really only needed to pack our toothbrush. Towels, bedding, dish cloths/towels, dishes, cooking utensils, BBQ items, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, water, creamer, wine glasses, beer glasses, throw pillows and blankets, tv, shower, fireplace, popcorn, first aid kit, toothpaste and now that I am thinking about it there may have actually been some toothbrushes as well! They even had some reading materials, including;

They have literally thought of everything.

Our Stay

We actually started our date night/trip a few Km, down the road from the cabins, on the Livingston Line section of the G2G Rail Trail. If you are new here we would love for you to check out our G2G Series. We are section hiking the G2G Rail Trail from Goderich to Guelph. After lovely 8kms on the G2G we headed to the cabin. We stayed in the Westia Cabin. We had zero expectations before arriving, but we were blown away by the cabin as soon as we saw it. It was super cute and cozy on the outside and got even better inside. As soon as we walked in we were greeted to the lit fireplace. Everything was very clean, and almost brand new. The colours and decor was beautiful and right on trend for my style and the area. So we unpacked the car of our overnight bag, bag with board games and cooler of beer, tell me we're from Huron County without telling me we're from Huron County, and settled into the couch for some cuddly reading. We literally did not talk for about 2 hours. It was nice to spend time together but still have quiet, something we do not get very often in our house. Once the sun started to set we took a drive into town, Blyth, for supper at The Blyth Inn, aka The Boot, we highly recommend.

Pro tip: You can hike into town on the G2G. We had planned to do this the following morning to head to the Bakery, BRØD bread & pastry. Unfortunately they were closed on Sunday, bummer 😔. But the hike into town would have been a wonderful way to start the day.

Anywho...after supper at the Boot we went back to the cabin for a night of beer and boardgames. The next morning we made some coffee and went out on the trail, right outside our front door! The frost on the trees was magical.

While this may sound simple. It was absolutely perfect for us and exactly what we needed. A quick, easygoing getaway. The mixture of time spent outside, reading by the fire and small town charms were the best date this girl could have asked for.

Jeff and I love supporting local. If you have any questions about any of the links, attractions, locations, shops, books or podcasts mentioned in this post please do not hesitate to reach out. We would be happy to answer questions, give our honest opinions and help you plan a fantastic getaway in Huron County.
