So we took a new form of travel for Jeff and I. We biked the last section of the G2G that we hiked. We wanted to get the bikers perspective. Read on for our thoughts.
For this adventure we rented bikes from The Goderich Bike Shop. This was not the super smooth experience I was expecting, but it did the job. The website is confusing because they have recently purchased Blyth Bike Tours, which is the location you would pick the bikes up in Blyth. So for starters you call to let them know the details of your trip.

Info they need;
Dates of trip
Heights of riders
Pick and drop off location
You can bring your own helmet or use theirs
You pay a deposit to secure the booking, then the remaining bill once you arrive.
Sign the waiver when you pick up your bikes
Goderich Bike Shop/Blyth Bike Shop is located on the back street that runs behind the Blyth Post Office. Directly beside the theatre. The signage is not great from Main Street. You are looking for a storage container in a small back lot beside/behind the post office and theatre. That is what you get.

Okay so now that we have our bikes, lets pedal!
On this adventure Jeff and I biked from Blyth to Walton, actually 1 side road past Walton. (Check out our blog on this section in the G2G Series to find out why).

Full disclosure I do not have a lot of experience on a bike. Jeff was much better at this adventure than I was, however, I was much better off afterwards than him. Talk about a pain in the butt 😉. We decided on this adventure to test out bikes to see if we should get some for Audrey to ride with us. I think we are going to go for it.

This post is not about the details of the trail, because honestly you will get a way better account for that in our regular #G2Gseries. What we wanted to share about this adventure was just how different biking the G2G is from Hiking it.

The G2G Rail Trail runs along the old rail line from Goderich to Guelph. It has been mostly marketed as a bike trail, and as you know from our other G2G posts, bikes take up a lot of the traffic on the trail. That is all fine and dandy and biking the trail from Blyth to Walton (in a total of 2.5 hours round trip) was a much better cardio workout than the walks we do when section hiking. We also have to point out that what we biked in 2.5 hours took us about a month to walk. So that is our point. Biking is very different from hiking. You get a very different experience hiking the trail than when biking. We wanted to do a section we were familiar with to see just how different. Honestly there were times I did not recognize where I was. You go so much faster on the bike and miss the flowers, the interesting tree formations, the huge rocks, the babbling waters. None of this is to say biking is bad. We really enjoyed the change of pace. Just that it is worth it to determine what your goal is when choosing your activity on the trail.

1. Do you want to cover a lot of space quickly?
2. Are you looking for more of a workout?
3. Do you want to stop and smell the roses?
4. Breathe and enjoy the scenery?

You get to chose your adventure. Also you can always do both (we did) 😊 Just get out there!
