G2G Series - Button Line to McCall Line

Updated: Sep 5, 2021

2 side roads from Walton going back towards Blyth

While hiking this section, we made a new friend that made our family adventure even more enjoyable!

OVERALL CONDITION

This section is mostly sun, with sections of tree coverage. However there were no bugs and it was not marshy/swampy. The trail is smooth and flat, as is most of the G2G. There is lots of bush on both sides of the trail, which makes the hike more scenic.

INTERESTING FACT

At least on the day our family hiked this section there was a very friendly local black Lab who joined us. He ran along the trail with us and our dog both ways. He jumped in puddles and played with our dog. Unleashed dogs are not permitted on the G2G. However, exceptions have to be made for locals with trail sections through their backyards 😉

TRAFFIC

Once again you can see the highway for most of the section, on both sides. However, on this section it was barely noticeable. That could have been because of our new Labrador friend, or the beautiful vegetation that was blooming around us.

Foot traffic was also pretty steady. We are usually the only people we see hiking. Though you may encounter a biker along the way. So make sure you follow road rules and keep to your side so they can pass.

PARKING

Parking is not ideal, but doable. It is a side road, and gravel as usual. The ditches are steep. So pulling over onto the shoulder was tricky. We also thought the road did not look well used, but this was incorrect. There was a surprising number of through traffic on the road. We were able to pull our CRV off the road by parking right next to the shoulder and the trail head. *Do not block the trail entrance when parking.
