G2G Series - McNabb Line to Gillis Line

Updated: Dec 6, 2021

We are almost in Perth County! This section is about halfway between Walton and Moncton.

Trail from Gillis to Mcnabb Line

OVERALL CONDITION

At the time of this writing the G2G Trail had just seen a massive makeover. The hardworking volunteers diligently groomed the entire length of the trail from Guelph to Goderich, the final week in August 2021. I will admit there were sections prior to this date that severely required this level of maintenance. Now that the job is complete the trail is better than ever. Smooth, fresh gravel and the grass is well trimmed.

G2G Trail

Specifically, this section is about about 50% in the sun and 50% tree covered. We would recommend this section in the shoulder season for this reason, it can be hot! The trail is tree lined, however, I do not think you would get a ton of shade regardless of the time of day.

When we hiked this section there were 2 beautiful corn fields on either side of the trail which added to the quality of the trail. If these crops had been harvested or if they were a smaller crop, like beans, this section would not have been as interesting. Which leads me to the traffic.

TRAFFIC

You can clearly see and hear the traffic from the highway on this section. While this is not an issue for us, we think it is worth mentioning.

As for people traffic, once again we were the only hikers. We did see 3 bikers on our return trip on the trail. Unpopular opinion....bikers please, please please, announce yourselves when approaching hikers. We do our very best to respect the space of everyone on the trail. We understand the "rules", so to speak. We hike with our dog, our toddler (usually in the stroller), my husband and myself. On this day I turned to see a biker quite literally on my heels, who made no attempt to inform us of their presence. I apologized and moved out of their way. To which they replied with no spoken words or recognition and sped off down the trail. It was an unfortunate experience as I like to think people on the trail look out for each other and show kindness. This experience certainly is not the norm.

PARKING

As is usual on the G2G there is no parking for this section. We were able to park nicely on the side of the road/Trail head, making sure to stay away from the farmers field entrance.
