We are now in Perth County. This is the first section in Perth County when traveling from Goderich to Guelph.
Overall Condition
This section of the trail was very nice. After a few sections in this area that were less than thrilling we really enjoyed this part. We hiked this section on Jan. 1, 2022 our #firstdayhike. We do think in the spring with more foliage this section would be really pretty and would offer some good tree coverage. Obviously in January, things were pretty brown.
There were 2 sections with trees that were down across the trail but we still managed to get by with the stroller. We have recently had some strong winds so this is not unexpected. We tried to move as many sticks off the trail as we could but they were pretty much full trees/branches. Our dog Jovie did not mind one bit though let me tell you.
We also noticed a couple piles of animal....mess. We assume they were from a dog, of course we are not experts. If they were from a wild animal that is fantastic, as this is their home. If they were from a dog, I want to take the time to remind people to pick up after their dog. We always take our dog with us on the trail and, on multiple occasions, had people gives us looks for doing so. There can be a negative perception of dog owners not doing their part. I assure you we are VERY responsible in that sense #leavenotrace. Please do not be that person who ruins it for the rest of us.
Back to the condition of the trail....There is a good amount of tree coverage like I mentioned above. There is also good foliage along the sides of the trail. It is a bit marshy in the ditches, so it may be buggy in the sumer months. I enjoy the different plants and trees, yes even the ones that are knocked down. I think it adds character, you know?
Traffic
Once again you can see both the highway and side road on either side of the trail. However, we are thoroughly in the country now and traffic was low. We also hiked this section on New Years Day, so there is that. McNaught Line, was the busiest for car traffic, same as our last post Gillis Line to McNaught Line.
There was no other bike or hiker traffic on this section when we were there. However, we did see another car parked a few side roads away and spotted a group out for their own #firstdayhike. We love seeing other people out hiking the G2G Rail Trail!
Parking
Once again there is no spectacular parking available on the side roads. We parked on Livingstone Line as we found McNaught Line to be too busy with traffic. There was a good amount of space on the shoulder to park without blocking any driveways, trail head or field entrances.
