Ok, so a while back, you may remember my post on Toronto. I mentioned then that I would have more to say on this city, and here it is. Toronto is a few hours of decent highway driving away from us. So we go there fairly often. On this occasion we visited like tourists...like I said we had planned to do in this post on Toronto.
On this occasion Jeff and I stood in the long line to go up the CN Tower. We had both done this before as kids, but not as full grown adults. It was still super fun and exciting as an adult. We took the standard tourist picture (that we definitely did not purchase), then waited for our turn to ride the 336 meters (that is 1, 135 ft) in the elevator to the top. Although visiting the CN tower is super touristy and busy it is worth a visit. This building is 553.33 meters (1815.4ft), the worlds tallest tower. I mean why wouldn't you take a visit? Maybe because you are afraid of heights? That is legit. But I encourage you to face your fears and take the ride, or climb the 2579 steps to the top, after all things are always better when you have to work for them.
Once at the top you can walk, sit, lay down or do a little jig on the glass floor. I do not have a fear of heights and this was nerve-wracking for me. Which of course made it sooo worth it. Be silly, be brave, have fun. The top of the CN tower is a circle with commanding views of the City. I highly suggest taking some time to walk the entire loop. You can check out sights from well known Canadian Television, so there's that. But you can also use it as a map to help plan the rest of your visit to Toronto. See worth it!
The CN Tower also offers an Edge Walk experience. This was closed when we were there so we did not participate, yes they were closed that is why we did not dangle ourselves 100's of feet above the city of Toronto, that is the only reason. I swear. I would not lie to you. If it were open....you can literally walk above the city around the CN Tower. They give you wind suits, yes it is very windy that high up, and strap you into harnesses. Then you take a lovely, super relaxing stroll, literally with the birds. #bucketlist
After our visit to the CN Tower we venture to Kensington Market. I had attended a bachelorette party where we did a food tour of the Market and was thoroughly impressed. This day trip was not planned in advance so we were not able to take a legitimate tour. So I followed the path I had taken previously and took Jeff on the tour myself. I must say that taking the tour was better. I highly recommend it. Attending the market solo can be very overwhelming. There are just so many options, and while I am sure they are all delicious, you just cannot try everything. Getting a local guide is worth the $$. I went with a group of 8ish for the bachelorette and I paid $20. I was stuffed by the end of the tour, had an amazing couple of hours learning about the market and the people who have businesses there and about the culture the food was from. #worthit #bucketlist
No trip to T.O. is complete without a stop at Yorkdale Mall. Or maybe that is just for us small town folk who like to shop at places other than the local variety store every once and a while. This mall is huge (again to us small town folk). The mall is rather high end shopping but a fancy place to wander and dream about buying the $500 purse.
There is so much to do in T.O. that we cannot fit it all into 1 day. Some other of our favourites from previous trips include;
2. Casa Loma
4. The CNE
5. Rogers Stadium for a Blue Jays Game
6. Air Canada Centre (Aka ScotiaBank Arena) for a Leaf's Game
11. The many theatres and concert halls. In particular, I like Budweiser Stage. I have fond memories of Lynyrd Skynyrd and Motley Crew performing there, 😍.
12. and of course, Ikea.
We sometimes wonder why anyone would want to come visit where we live. We spend our day to day in our environment and sometimes do not appreciate what we have. When we visit our home as a tourist we gain a new appreciation for what is right in our backyard.
